Practical information about the one-year course
Age
The average student age is 19,5 years. We do occasionally accept students younger than 18 years of age.
School year
It starts in the end of August and ends the second week of May.
At the opening ceremony and during the last week, parents and family are welcome.
The school year lasts for 33 weeks. Lectures are given 6 days a week (including Saturdays), except for some leisure days.
Financial information
The tuition at all folk high schools in Norway is free.
All students that decide to attend Øytun must pay 1 500 Norwegian kroner, to reserve their place at the school.
The cost of room and board is 56 000 NOK for the schoolyear.
Addition for a large double room with your own bathroom in the new student residence is 7 000 NOK/year.
The rest of the common costs are 12 100 NOK/year, which includes the school trip to Russia, other common trips, school supplies,
pillow and blankets, washing machines and internet access.
The major and four electives cost minimum 12 600 NOK/year, depending on your choice of subjects.
The total cost of the school year will be sent to you following your acceptance.
Credits
A completed year at Øytun will earn you three credits towards acceptance at a Norwegian University or other institutions of higher learning in Norway.
Admissions
The admission process starts February 1.
Enclosed with your letter of acceptance, you will receive more information about finance and subjects.
Application
You choose one main subject, one elective for the autumn term and one for the spring term. You are free to make any combination you wish.

There have been some trouble receiving applications from abroad. Therefore we recommend you to send the paper copy together with the copy of your transcripts with post.
The school has the right to cancel subjects with too few applicants and to make adjustments if to many student in one subject.
Changes in the school year may arise as a result of conditions outside the school´s control.
