Nordic Nature Photography
Nordic Nature Photography is a one-year study for those who have a founding knowledge of photography and who want to develop further as photographers.
We will provide you with a professional supplementation and specialization in nature photography that may form the basis of further
work or education within photography, as well as many great picture opportunities.
You will experience the diversity of Nordic nature as a nature photographer, and challenging conditions as an outdoors´ man.
Nature photography/outdoor life - subjects:
- Photographing birds and animals
- Camouflage photography
- Landscape and macro photography
- Photographing northern lights
- Composition and visual expression
- Reportage on nature (for publication)
- B/W developing and duplication
- Developing and duplicating slide film (E6)
- The zone system
- Photo ethics
- Photographic history/ update on contemporary photography with emphasis on nature photography
- Camera technique, analogue and digital
- Digital picture; scanning, picture treatment (Photoshop) and printouts
- Making a website for photo presentation
- Multivision programme – analogue and digital
- Introduction to the setup of a private enterprise
- Introduction to outdoor life including a first aid course, cold weather clothing, snow and avalanche evaluation, trip provisions, weather, how to survive in the high mountains in winter
Joint trips to:
- Bird cliffs and coastal Finnmark
- Sámi reindeer herding areas
- Wilderness areas in Northern Sweden
- Glaciers and coastal mountains in Finnmark
- Tundra and river (canoeing)
- Ski trips with snow bivuac and winter camouflage
Procedures
The school year will consist of parts in which we alternate between lessons at Øytun, trips with a teacher,
and independent trips alone or in smaller groups.
For three longer periods of time it will be possible to undertake project trips to another Nordic country,
where one can take part in the education at the photo classes at another school,
or set up one’s own photo projects with help from Øytun’s contacts in Greenland, Iceland, Åland, Svalbard, or in Northern Norway.

The admission process starts 1. February.
Applicants for Nordic Nature Photography apply with a form that is sent upon request.
Documentation of various sorts
(see Practical information),
a resumé and references from earlier photography courses, as well as four slide pictures with motives covering these areas:
macro photography, birds or animals, landscape, and "nature according to me".
Applicants must have their own SLR camera equipment and outdoor equipment. Further information available upon request.
