Life at Øytun

Student recidencies
Nature offers a lot of amazing experiences, and one of the best is coming home. The student recidencies are small house-communities, which are a good basis for social challenges and lifelong friendships. 12 – 20 students share a common room and a kitchen. Adjacent to each dorm is a house where one of the members of our staff lives with their family. We work with different topics concerning living together and cooperating in this community, which gives you a unique opportunity for personal growth.

The Catacomb
This is our quiet room and meeting place for issues concerning faith and doubt, or just a place to reflect. We offer groups for conversations/bible studies and a bus to the church on Sundays.

Cultural evenings
Wednesday evenings are devoted to culture. There will be travel descriptions, slide shows, movies, debates, and much more. The school is frequently visited by interesting individuals who can claim extraordinary merits.

Sport
We train volleyball, basketball, football and bandy in the schools gymnasium. You will have the opportunity to take advantage of all the activities in Alta, where there are telemark-club, climbing-group, kayak-club, dogmushing-club, swimming pool and sport halls with an indoor climbing wall. The area around Øytun is great for skiing, and a lit ski track is adjacent. The mountain nearby has great possibilities for all who enjoy telemark skiing. You can also take the bus to Alta´s ski resort.

Leisure activities
The school offers different extra curricular activities in the evenings. You can choose between handicrafts, choir, photography, bible studies and hunting courses. Organizations in the city include several choirs, a zoology club and a movie club. Alta cinema has an interesting and up to date program.

Saturday evenings
These are never boring. Often there are a student evenings, where one of the classes is responsible for the entertainment and food. Sometimes there are open events where the citizens of Alta are welcome, or coffee and cakes at one of the teacher´s homes. All these arrangements are part of the school schedule. One weekend a month is designated leisure time, which gives you the opportunity to enjoy your own adventures.

Student council
We want the students to take responsibility for their own situation and our school environment. Each student recidence chooses their representative for the student council, which meets at a regular basis in the staff council´s weekly meetings. We want open communication and trust to characterize the cooperation of this boards and our school as a whole.
